You set the straps once at the door in the morning and that is the last thought you give them. By the time you walk back up the drive at six they are still sitting exactly where you put them.

The straps close where your foot ends

A buckle gives you a row of fixed holes, and on a wider foot one hole is too tight and the next one is too loose. There are no holes here. Both straps close with hook-and-loop, which grips anywhere along its length, so you set the width to your actual foot instead of to the nearest punched hole. Nothing has to be forced shut and nothing flaps.

The front and the ankle adjust separately

The band over your toes and the band around your instep and heel are two separate closures. That matters if your foot is broad at the front but narrow at the ankle, or the other way round, because you are not setting one strap and then living with what that does to the rest. Each one comes in to where your foot actually is.

Wide bands instead of thin ones

Every strap on this sandal is broad — the band across your toes, the piece over the instep, the one behind your heel. A wide band carries the same hold over a much larger area, so it presses evenly instead of cutting a line in.

Let it out at four o'clock without taking it off

Feet spread out over the course of a day, especially in the heat, and that is when a fixed sandal starts to bite. Here you pull the strap back, let it out a little and press it down again, standing up, in about two seconds.

Your heel is held, so your toes don't have to grip

The strap behind your heel and the moulded dip it sits in keep your foot on the footbed, so your toes are not curling all day to stop the sandal sliding off. The sides stay open where your foot is widest, and it comes in EU 36 to EU 43.
